yes, race is often defined by a single characteristic that happens to be very visible. we have many many many different characteristics, and DNA studies have shown there are more difference within a race then between races.

Scientist say that race has no place in biology and does not determine what someone will look like. In fact, just like we all learned early on in history the truth that there is only one human race, homo sapiens, still holds true.
Instead, race is a socially constructed concept that places people in a hierarchy determining status.
So when you ask someone what race they are you sound foolish. Instead, one might be interested in a person's ethnicity.
