America needs a sensible POTUS

Yes, most astronauts are already a part of the Military. This will help develop scientific advances, and make training more specialized for astronauts.

so why would that need to be another branch of military and why would you need weapons for that?

I think it's just overall beneficial is exploration. I would kill for the opportunity to actually be able to travel space. We watch through a telescope, but a camera doesn't do being in person justice. Japanese were going to design a space station and have it up and running by 2020 yet due to money and the preference of robots are preferred.

I'm not arguing against the idea of helping our space capabilities. I was just referencing our own details generals who said that the last thing we need is another chain of command in the military that they are currently trying to simplify.

regarding ancient aliens,
have you given any time to hearing out its critics?

You can argue that although not immediately necessary, having a foothold on the final frontier will have it's advantages. There is the threat of nuclear warfare and within the next few centuries it could be the case that the Earth becomes habitually more uninhabitable. Humanity is gearing towards colonization of the moon and the Mars as we speak. It could also be the case that as technology advances, there will be a growing need for protection as the inevitable territorialization of the moon & Mars could cause hostilities from different nation's as resources will certainly be limited. Barges will need to be protected and people will need escortation.

On a different scenario ancient alien theorists have put forward credible evidence that most certainly should not be dismissed that extraterrestrial visitors have visited and currently still frequent the Earth. This is not a case of crock pot fantasies but rather based in a plethora of actual scientific evidence involving carbon dating, chemical findings in certain suspected areas of extraterrestrial involvement as well as theological & mythological evaluation based on the credibility of the synchronistic evidence found across different continents with supposed no form of communication. Extraterrestrial intelligences are sometimes portrayed as possibly hostile and with foresight one can conclude that however minute the possibility it should be taken into consideration that our home should be protected from not only internal or external biological threats but also natural catastrophic potentialities such as asteroids.
