I put that I disagreed with how we did it and so does all Americans much like Germans say they disagree with Hitler.

you toppled the democratically elected government of Guatamala so an American company could keep land they weren't using. they had decades of military coups and repression.

you propped up a corrupt south Vietnamese regime that represented virtually none of their population. you then arranged for that government to be overthrown in a coup. in order to keep these dictators in power you murdered millions in South Vietnam, North Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos just so you could deny them the right to pick their own government.

those countries certainly did bad things. then they stopped. and America took over terrorizing countries that wouldn't do what America told them to.

every country has a past. that makes everyone a bully what u said means Germany's a bully, France a bully, and Russia a bully just to name three off my head.

I would say we had to choose between two horrible canadites and that we chose the one that could do good or bad depending on who he surrounds himself with.

2 years, 9 months ago

agreed we can go back to the original topic. but you can't deny all these terrible things America has done. that makes America a bully. and alot of the world sees it that way.

ur restricting the argument to 70 years which is hardly fair since our country doesn't even touch the age of most of the ones that could actually do damage.and making it only western nations. but again let's get back on subject. we can continue the rest in a diff vine if u want

2 years, 9 months ago

don't know enough on Guatamala. isn't that the coup thing?

on Vietnam everywhere everyone was scared of opposing countries. not just America. we just put soldiers in there. we should of used a dif. tact.

in Korea we should have cooperated with the north there leader liked us and thought his start was like America.(history class. college level) if we talked with him I think we would have a great happy Korea as a whole. or when we sided with south we should of kept the land we.took instead of trying to just kill them all(again college)

2 years, 9 months ago

I'm saying that countries want you to be an ally. you act like a global bully. the government of Guatamala wants to actually use land that isn't bring used by an American company? you just depose their government and give them decades of military dictatorship. countless people die and or are oppressed but that American company got to keep that land it wasn't using. god bless the land of freedom.

Vietnam, a country on the other side of the world that has nothing to do with you picks a style of government you don't like so you bomb multiple countries to try to force them to accept another corrupt / military regime.

try to find another western nation who has killed more people and established more dictatorships in the last 70 years.

2 years, 9 months ago

nato and the UN ask what other people want before they do things. the US topples governments and bombs countries flat and dares the world to stop them. Guatamala, Vietnam, Iraq etc.

no one asked you to be the world police. they just want an ally who will support them.

2 years, 9 months ago

this thread wasnt meant to discuss the relations between america and the rest of the world. Anyway its fine to debate on other issues as well.

also I'm guessing u have a problem with the un and NATO since both are world police officers figures

2 years, 9 months ago

who asked for America to meddle in their affairs? who asked for the CIA to topple their elected government and install a military dictator?

people ask for help from America and it always comes with an American boot on their throat. America is responsible for a lot of good things. they are also responsible for the deaths of millions of people solely because those people wouldn't do what America wanted them to.

2 years, 9 months ago

haha glad to know u don't.like America.will be interested when Canada needs help.

wouldn't a smaller pop. want more people?

give a actual statistic please. also if that is true it's funny how all these countries cry for Americas help all the time if we're said bullies.

2 years, 9 months ago

you are comparing apples and oranges. Canada does not allow as many immigrants because our population is considerably smaller. you can't say more people want to go to America just because America needs/allows more immigrants.

and America's image in a large portion of the world is that you are the bully. you push other countries around and are just generally stuck up. your message saying that America is the idea of freedom and that you think of yourselves as world police only highlight the reason most people don't like you.

2 years, 9 months ago

yeah that's what is sad. but hey if they want to they can. what I meant was America gets more. we are also the idea that the world thinks on freedom.also bullying/policing nation

2 years, 9 months ago

Canada gets a considerable amount of immigration. alot of people want to be here. especially after trump was elected. the Canadian immigration website crashed because so many people tried to apply at once the night trump was elected.

hey we arnt stupid we just don't have enough people going to the electoral vote or actual vote. half of America is just lazy

2 years, 9 months ago

This doesn't flow with where the debate is at now, but @thereal I think we probably have two slightly different definitions of the word stupid :p Stupidity kind of encompasses the "immaturity and scandal" that you mentioned. In that sense, the candidates are stupid. I can give more reasons I believe that if asked, but I think most people have a good idea already of what I would be referring to, on both sides. But I stand by my argument that choosing these candidates is not proof of a blanket of stupidity over the population of America. It reflects the normal psychological process of gravitating towards well-known figures, even when they are as immature as they are. These are also the options that people felt they had. I think the entire race this year is rubbish, but in the end someone has to be chosen. Now, could the future president be forced to resign if he(or she now) did an extremely poor job? Americans have the right to protest and get the changes they want from their government, even if it is such a difficult task. My personal opinion, which incidentally happens to be the reason for this argument, is that none of the candidates appeared to be amazing and stand out, and it came down to whoever had a previous reputation. I think that the idea the fact that Trump and Clinton are candidates is not a sign of "American stupidity" but a sign of what I would consider to be a bigger problem where the government is adopting an immature face, indicating decline. As an American, I cannot say I am especially proud of the political situation, and I feel that I am starting to see what other countries may see when they think of America. Maybe spoiled, reckless, and annoying. Like a high school cafeteria haha.

As for the rest of the debate, my opinion: America is not the greatest country. My reason: if you were to measure the USA against other countries using the Human Development Index, the official model used by the United Nations, you would find that some countries do outrank America. This does not mean America is bad or whatever, it simply means that other countries surpass the USA in certain parameters. America is definitely a world power and all, but when all is said and done, I believe Norway was number 1 on the HDI recently, I don't know how dated that is. I am using the HDI just because it is more official than the opinions of people who will naturally have certain biases, myself included.

he wanted to abolish the IRS and establish a flat tax which benefits the rich.

he is "pro life". he is against same sex marriage, net neutrality and immigration reform.

he is pro death penalty, pro guns, denies global warming.

he wants to abolish the department of education.

he is against any attempt to get control of gun violence.

he was a major force behind the 2013 government shutdown.

he is staunchly opposed to providing health care for people who can't afford it.

cruz was a constitutionalist. he only wanted things to be become law if it was democratic, not if a few supreme court judges wanted it to be. i guess thats why you ****** democrats hate cruz so much because if he was there you would never have your evil undemocratic demands come true.

historybluff, how was cruz worse than trump? are you stupid?

like many countries our economy is tied into yours. but size does not make one great. you are big and make alot of big guns. but you act like complete dicks to other countries. your political situation is hopelessly polarized. you cannot get a grip on your rampant guns issues. you only only now winding down your horribly misguided "tough on crime" initiatives. your incarceration rate is massive.

in short, America could be great. but it is still struggling with alot if internal issues.

We lead the world in tech developement, we have the best colleges, we innovate in medicine, we have the strongest army, best economy, most civil liberties, and most open economy where businesses can make all their businesses decisions on their own. No other countries is number 1 on so many things like we are.

If Canada ever gets in trouble, guess what? Your army cannot defend you, we have more cops in NYC than your army. You are on a continent protected by the USA, and the USA would have to save your ass. You would not be as happy as you would be if the USA was not located on your continent. Put Canada away from the USA, and there would be two major things. You wouldn't have you major trading partner, nor your buddy to defend you. You are literally a country who would be in shambles if we were not there, and its very existence depends on where the USA is and how its doing.

it depends on who you ask. according to lifestyle America is 24th on the best countries to live in list, at least in 2013.

https://lifestyle9.org/worlds-best-country-to-live-in-2013/

you are not the great country you seem to think you are.

America was the second greatest country to live in overall. Now it is third. However, all factors combined, America is still the greatest country.

standard of living is the top factor.

all those factors combined. greatness can't really be measured. overall what country is greatest today?

you didn't specify how you measure great. militarily? culturally? standard of living? government? there are many ways to measure greatness.

you answered half of the question

the greatest country militarily in history? the Mongols, the Romans, there are a couple contenders. I would probably say the Mongols.

the greatest in political influence? the Romans ruled or heavily influenced almost all of their known world at their height. they were probably greater in that sense. America's influence has been on the decline for decades.

Technically, we have the best colleges. Our colleges crowd the top 15, and they are also private colleges built off profit.

(It is the state controlled pre-12 schools we have a problem with.)

We set the pace for technological innovation.

Everyone comes hear to live their dream because of the free economy, and you can do anything you want.

We have the most civil liberties.

Also, we have the most powerful army.

name the greatest country in history, then name the greatest country now. it's the USA.

and America is not the greatest country ever in standard if living, health care, education and so many other things.

if you want to only look at military and political influence then yes America is the greatest. but in many other ways you are not.

are you nuts? cruz was the only candidate worse than trump.

historybuff I didn't say the socialists were evil. I said most dems wanted the same Obama policy. if I'm not insulting you, don't take it as in insult.

but since you brought it up, the rest of the world isn't as good as the us, now are they? there is a reason refugees and other people want to come to the US, and always have. If Europe and Asia had things we dont, good things we don't have, why have millions and millions immigrated to the US over the years?
it's because the US is the greatest country ever because we aren't like the rest of the developed world. no offense to Canada:)

what america needed was Cruz. he was their best man but now his only remnants of are memes of him climbing trump tower smh.

so some "socialists" want what the rest of the developed world has? my god they must be evil.

rebublicans wanted change. Cruz is too establishment, Rubio is too young, carson isn't fired up enough.

some far left liberals, I call socialists, wanted change. unfortunately for them most dems wanted the sane Obama bs, just a step more left.

it is stupid though. i know some people did vote for other candidates but the fact of the matter is that most americans voted for these morons and THAT is how they rose to power. trump isnt stupid and neither is hillary, the american citizens are. in other countries politicians with such....immaturity and scandal would never have made it to such a position.

I don't think that the presedential candidates are proof that Americans are stupid at all. I can't say I understand how the democratic and republican candidates rose to where they are today with the kinds of things they do or say, and this year really is a joke. But I assume it happened because both are very well known, so people naturally gravitate towards them. That's natural though, not stupid. Lots of people did vote for other candidates.

Populism. It's human to fall victim to it.

Some Americans are stupid, some are brilliant. Most fall somewhere in between. The electoral system is convoluted and broken and the entire thing runs on money, but the candidates do not necessarily accurately represent the populations mental acuity.

Do you think Obama is in the same boat as Trump and Clinton? If not, how has the population changed since the last election.
