Yes it is true that debating make stop started cause everytime you answer something your always imagine something and also learn.
I agree. Whether I sway people to agree with me, am myself swayed, or reach an impasse, I learn something in my research, I learn from my opponent's arguments, and occasionally I learn something about my own biases. There are people on this app that I disagree with frequently, but I can still respect their intellect, and often find myself challenged.
Often when I engage in debates with the more rational people on here, I prove I'm right, or I'm proven wrong, or we reach a stalemate.
No matter what the outcome, I find the challenge makes me smarter. In cases where I've been right, I've had to copy down my arguments and turn them into thesis'. When I've been wrong, I've felt myself bettered for it. Even when I've reached a stalemate, I've found my intellect challenged and improved.
Also, members on this site (thus far) don't descend into pointless flame-wars. We've reached emotional high-points but we've kept it civil. That's a good thing. This means the intellectual effort of argument is making us all just a bit smarter.
