That's because they realize that they are worth more than that - that they don't deserve to be manipulated their entire lives. Dogs don't and even if they did, don't have the power to liberate themselves. We humans have deemed dogs useful and so, naturally, we use them. Cats are not so compliant and will fight to the death if it means freedom.
Cats don't let anyone tell them what to do. They are independent, but can also manipulate a human for their own needs.
dogs can be used for many different things that cats can't be used for.
