As a person who've suffered depression I can say that those who has disagreed most likely do not understand the basics of depression. Depression can prevent one from doing daily tasks from work, making breakfast, etc. It is never just feeling blue. It's a mixture of emotions that feels like a hurricane.

Normal depression can decrease productivity of an individual plus lack of motivation can also effect life of that individual in long run.
Prolonged depression effects individual's behaviour and mindset in a negative way and this also effect people around them.
Further clinical depression can cause mood swings, sadness, anger etc and can even cause diseases.
Depression can even make people choose the incorrect or morally unjustified things.
