If you are a danger to others the government has the right to intervene because this is a society of which you chose to be a part of, and in this society the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. However, if you are only a danger to yourself and not to others the government should not intervene because that is simply your life choice.
The 8th amendment says no cruel and/or unusual punishment is allowed.
A mother and father with low IQ have lost custody of their kids, as they are not raising them in descent standards. She is pregnant and could lead to her death, they refuse to use contraception. Does the government have a right to intervene
