Every child should own some type of pet. This enables them to learn commitment, responsibility, sacrifice, empathy and loss. Some people are allergic to cats or dogs, but could have fish or reptiles. Any animal would provide the same life lessons.
Our kids may have different favorite pets so we cannot force our kids to have a dog as their pets. It means we have to be understanding to their liking. Dog is just one kind of pet and there are other animals that can be their pets like cat, fish or rabbit. As parents, we have to let them choose their favorite pets.
