Exactly. Religion has caused so much death, and ignorance it is worse than useless. It is despicable.
Even though I'm not into religion or think it should still be a thing, I don't think it needs to vanish for us to survive. there will always be religion and it most likely won't be the reason we go extinct.
Religion is not the only source of conflict, and realistically it is rarely the true source. Generally religion is used as a justification for aggression over land, power or resources. That is not to say that there is no religious violence, but there is also lots of examples of religion being used to justify living peacefully with those who are different.
we will need to ditch religion. we're all separate due to religion. if we actually stopped fighting and worked together then there just might be a chance of us advancing.
I was saying what Alex said.
For life there must be water, but water does not mean life. There can be water without life right?
umm... in Stephen hawking 's "the universe in a nut shell", he says life can only evolve with liquid water. But ok I guess you're smarter
Water doesn't mean there is life. but it is certainly encouraging. also the water is only a liquid for a brief time.
completely off subject, but NASA just confirmed liquid water on Mars... Extraterrestrial Life!
It may not be necessary for us to survive and progress as a society, but it does not necessarily follow that eliminating religion is necessary for those things. There are wars over religion, but there have always been wars regardless of faith. Removing religious beliefs may reduce conflict, but it would not stop them. I think the burden of proof lies with those feeling we need to end all religions to justify why we cannot survive as a species with them. It should also be mentioned that the topic doesn't specify Christianity or Islam but all religions. Everything religion from Buddhism to Hinduism would need to be proven to lead to the end of the species for a vote yes to be honest.
I would say they develop because everyone needs to explain the things they can't understand. why does the sun come up? Apollo is riding in his chariot we needed religion because people have to rationalize things. Now that we've explained most of the things religion was used for it is becoming useless. there is a social aspect to it too of course.
That's my exact point, Dave and Sloan
from an evolutionary standpoint, there's clearly a positive symbiotic relationship between religion and humans. there has to be a positive function of religion, otherwise nearly every civilization wouldn't have one, I'm thinking it's simply the cooperation aspect of religion. churches are sort of community centers.
However I think we can get rid of all the religious woo woo and dogma, and just keep the positive community aspects. I think that's how religion is evolving anyway
Religions have been used to justify many wars and atrocities, but they have also created many charities and helped many people. They tend to bring out the best and worst in people depending on who is at the top. Religion does not need to die out, but it should be tempered with wisdom and respect to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.
Because we get forced into belief, then argue about who's right. The Muslims think they are right, and so do you. This is exactly how wars start. We think we are right, and when others have a different one we don't get along. It's very possible to have a moral life without religion. Just get a sense of empathy.
Please explain why something that has been alive for all humanity cause humanity to die.
And by that I mean when we need the logic. All we really need in religion is the community. I don't care if the beliefs go away. I just care that we focus on the community of religion rather than the unknown of it.
Still, if you're going to prove me wrong, just say religion needs to die. I think we can CELEBRATE our beliefs. That is what I mean by that. I just want people to think of the KNOWN first rather than the unknown.
"I want people to know it's untrue"
"People can believe whatever they want"
No, I want people to have a good community in churches. The churches, which hold the church stuff every Sunday, would have the community connect. You can believe whatever you want, but you can't justify that as using it in science. We need a good community, but we also need to progress.
You want people to believe in something they know is untrue. Is this how all atheists think?
Even though I'm atheist, religion is fine. It's a nice community to get together with. Ask I think is that we should think about reality as it really is. I don't think the idea of religion should go away, I just want people to know it's not true. Just keep the community well, and everything will be fine.
