in my scenario, no it wouldn't. you would be a boy who acts extremely feminine or some mix, and that choice would be completely accepted by society, instead of society telling you "that's not how boys act" making them think they should really be a girl.
If I were to say I was a girl, would that be okay?
to be honest, I do disagree with transgender people getting reassignment. not with their right to choose it, but they aren't making the right choice. their entire disillusionment with their gender is because our society so strictly defines how each gender must act that any deviation is seen as abomination.
if they though the feelings they experience were not contradictory to how we define the gender they were born with, then it wouldn't be a problem. they would just be very flamboyant men. like Chris tucker in fifth element. some weird mix that I could respect without harmful hormone replacement and surgery which seem unnecessary in absence of these senseless norms.
how is any mental illness cured? if a thing is in your mind, there's a way to deal with it. it's not genetic.
