It is a real organization that no longer exists
Of course it is, that is factual and in history books.
I think its real I just don't think it matters much.
OK thanks for clarifying.
The Illuminati had to be underground about their ideas because they lived under a Christian monarchy which would persecute them for saying it publicly. But you're right, it's more of a history question than a religious one.
Why is this in the topics of religion?
Historically, it is. It was founded to spread the ideas of the Enlightenment in an underground, secret society in Bavaria. Any group that calls themselves that most likely claim to have ties to the original Illuminati. But they doubtfully are strong enough to live up to the hype that they are given nowadays.
I would be willing to Beth that there are many organizations that call themselves the Illuminati, but none of them likely wield the kinds of power depicted in movies. If they did, they would prevent movies from being made about them, or at least make sure it had a different name.
