Being unaware of how your actions affect others show you lack empathy. We need empathy in a leader, especially the type of empathy that transcends the group the leader is a part of. It's easy to empathise with those you relate to. You can just project yourself into their position. But it's often difficult when you cannot relate to the person. That requires a leader to consciously put themselves in the shoes and consider how this other person would feel. It's much harder than projecting your own mind into the situation. It's the ability to do this that makes a leader's decisions capable of meeting everyone's needs.
That's why it's so important for a leader to signal they care. If they can't even signal empathy it's unlikely they are empathetic. Donald Trump clearly doesn't empathise with those he is insensitive to. It's a signal that he lacks empathy for those groups. Lacking that empathy means his decisions will unlikely take their perspectives into account. That means those groups shouldn't vote for him to represent him. They can choose to call that racist or sexist, you can choose to not. The reality is he's a shit leader because of this
I don't think he's a racist. Although i caught him several times that were said to seem a bit racist. Although I believe it's just cause he kinda gets a little excited and says something out of line. I don't think he means any harm, or he's trying to be bias. A lot of the promises he made, he lived up to them. You know the wall he is building is being built as we speak?
When he says somethings. Some may be twisted by the media, i know they have been doing that. Twisting some of Trumps words to fit there story. Again though, he does say somethings that would seem out of line. Its not that he means it, it's just he's not aware of how insensitive it could be. For instance, "Grab her by the Pussy." You see, it's a joke, yet your running for president. Its not like he meant anything by it. A lot of people pulled that out of proportion and stated more then what it is. Although I see why people would be upset about it. He's running for president your not in a comedy show.
another example would be and this will sound like a racist one. "Most crimes that are committed the highest rate are black people, Hilary Clinton is basically a Black." As far as i Remember. Now i see why people would call him a racist here. Now, this was on a YouTube page in 2016 during a talk show idk. During the election. Now, this was insensitive in my ears. However; Again, I don't think he was trying to be insensitive. I think he's just unaware how someone may feel after a comment like that. Either that or he's just working people up so they act all insensitive themselves when the comment wasn't directed towards themselves.
Yeah, some of the stuff he has said and done are definitely beyond the line of what most people would deem acceptable. From his refusing to rent to black people in his buildings, to moving black people and women off the floor of his casinos to cater to racist/misogynist clients, etc.
The only way to deny that he is racist, in my opinion, is to:
1) be a racist yourself. It's easy to say trump isn't a racist if you agree with the racist things he does.
2) you simply don't know his background of doing and saying racist things
3) you willfully don't want to know his background and are just choosing to not see racism for what it is because you would rather believe he isn't.
yes everyone has generized bias that is sexist/racist ect to some degree... but some people are bigoted on a much different level compared to the average person.
i don't think anything trump said was twisted. he is simply bigoted beyond what would fit most people.
Yes, I think most people are racist. I'm racist. I'm sexist. I'm homophobic. Maybe I'm projecting, but there are also a lot of studies that show everyone has implicit bias that favours the group they identify with. What makes it worse is rejecting the idea you have bias makes it harder to actually correct for it.
i don't think he is deep down.. he just gets caught in the heat of the moment and says some things that is then twisted by the media 99% of the time into something that wasn't originally racist or discriminatory
