expressing yourself is fine, but doing it in such a way where you are trying to persuade some one to do something they don't want to is bad.
in america we are undet the rights of free speech. yes, its annoying, but you can simply slam the dolr in thier face. but making something such as the right to express yourself illegal would cause such an uproar it would not be anywhere near worth it, when telling them to go away is so much simpler. plus, as far im concernes, they are kind people who listen to you if you tell them to stop
I think not, these people are annoying (very annoying) butr we shouldn't take away their rights. And might I ask, would LDS missionaries count for this???
yeah maybe it's my personal experience and maybe the fact I dont really like people trying to change my opinion on something I'm quite stubborn I suppose, the vegetarianism debate for example
Perhaps Witnesses in England are more aggressive. The story you told could almost be seen as harassment. I've never heard of such a series of events happening in the US
haha Dw, doesn't matter where I'm from people who pester are a pain! lol
no, what I'm saying is it is wrong to push your opinion onto someone else, let them make that decision for them self! and like I said when you say no they just keep pestering, it's people who can't understand other people might have a different opinion ion or view to them that annoy me. For example this porch man called round the first time we said no thanks, but he insisted on leaving his card which we promptly threw away, two days later he came back to ask if we had considered it again we said no. about a week later the same company phoned and asked again, they asked if we would like an appointment at 4 the next day to which in the end we said no, but the porch man proceeded to come to our house and ring the bell however we ignored him he stood outside rang the bell for twenty minutes then sat in his car and called the house phone several times before finally leaving and the next day we received a call asking why we had Missed our appointment!!! this is what i mean they always call round in the evening when they know people are in which is pretty naughty really, it's always when your trying to eat or whatever and they just won't go when you say nice!
I agree that the people who call constantly should be illegal. There are other variables that come into play like the costs of minutes and whatnot.
My apologies for assuming you were from the United States - typical "self centered American ignorance" I suppose.
I still don't see your justification? Just because you can do it yourself if you so desire? Cold callers are basically a form of advertisement (and an effective one at that). There is nothing unlawful about what they are doing so I find your belief that their practice should be illegal is troubling. Annoyance is a poor justification to make something illegal.
I'm from the UK, and yeah we have freedom of speech and no they are not breaking any laws I'm just saying cold callers in general are a pain in the backside, I dont find it offensive just annoying. it's like those bloody annoying phone calls trying to tell you you can claim compensation for the accident you had, when actually you know you never had an accident and no matter what you do they call several times a month or week. and you think to yourself if ever have an accident the last people I'll contact are you!!
I was simply curious for your reasoning. However, if you are a citizen of the United States, you have free speech. Whether you find their "preaching" offensive or not, they have the right to preach. The notion that infringing on others' rights is justified simply because they are "annoying" is absurd.
As for them imposing their beliefs on you in offensive way, I have never had that problem. They have always been respectful of my right to decline their invitation. But personal experience only applies to me, I suppose.
All in all, they aren't not infringing on your rights as an American and they are not breaking any laws.
I'm not saying ban them from "getting the word out" I'm just saying stop them and I did say other cold callers (we keep getting one trying to sell us a porch) from constantly coming to our doors invading our privacy. If we want a new porch we will find one ourselves etc
because people should be able to make their own decisions rather than having people thrusting it at them at their doors, your house is supposed to be private and cold callers including Jehovah's witnesses interrupt that, it's not like when you say no they say okay it's then oh well here's a leaflet, here's my card here's our number. When there are people in town advertising a certain charity or selling a bug issue they are not supposed to approach you they are supposed to let you come to them it should be the same with cold callers. if someone wants to become a Jehovah's witness then they will go about it themselves. I personally think it's wrong to try to tell someone or persuade someone to do something if they dont want to. There's nothing wrong with their being leaflets in libraries shoos etc where you can pick it up if you want but repeatedly preaching your views to people who don't want to know is not just irritating as f*** but really quite wrong!!
I'm just curious- in what way do you justify banning a religion from getting the word out ?
