If you choose either side that is messed up. Neither is better, they are both terrible. Those who kill or rape children need to be locked up....
killing your child is far more worse then raping your child. just think about it for a moment, there is still potential that the child could grow up to live a normal life. this shouldn't have to be a debate because I consider this a knockout win for the opposing side. You only got one life to live and to take that completely away is just down right digesting and the worse thing you could do to someone. I personally know tons of females who have been raped by their uncles and such and they are happy in life currently. just because one life is ruined doesn't mean they all would be. sure they won't live a complete normal life but having that life is better than having none at all. Granted, you shouldn't rape cause rape is a f***ed up thing to do.
Why do you say that "most of those people were adults when it happened"? Are you trying to say that victims of childhood sexual abuse or rape are unable to be productive members of society? If that's the case, you need to back that up with some stats.
I'd still maintain the argument that life, even filled with mental pain and suffering is still worth living. You only get one shot at life; personal resilience along with counseling and other various treatments can still make it a fulfilling one. You'd have to prove that in all cases life after childhood sexual abuse and rape, life is no longer liveable by such a large margins as to justify death over attempting to moving on.
I took the question to be a hypothetical of a parent needing to do one or the other to their child for some reason (not really relevant) and to try and justify the action.
better for the victim
*Than, unless the argument is as written. Neither goes without saying, but between the two living is better than dying, and if living means being raped, it is better to live.
If it is the action that is questioned and not the effects of the result then it is up to the person answering. "Do you prefer to rape or murder?" Any person would say neither, but when it comes down to it, more people are willing to kill regardless of age, rape is less likely in terms of age. Which one are we deciding on, whether it is better to be, or to do?
most of those people were adults when it happened and most of the time if it happens once they'll do it again
Sure, I don't think anyone is denying that. What I am saying is that if you ask most of those people if they'd rather be dead than raped, most of them will choose that latter. Granted frequency plays a part in this, but there are plenty of productive members of society who have dealt with sexual assault and rape.
that's not what the studies show most time that leaves deep psychological scars
I think you're underestimating how resilient we can be.
How is there even a choice, I'm sorry neither is a good answer!
the psychological damage is far greater then if the kid was just dead
