that is not true. you don't need 50,000 dollars to go to community college, yet their fail rate for first year students is high and remedial classes are almost standard.

the education in poor areas is simply that subpar

Sadly a degree or a great school cant teach common sense.

a mediocre student from affluent areas can get a bachelor's degree because they are not very hard to get. if you have half a brain and 50,000 then you can get a degree.

99% of the population used to be sheep, then we introduced public education. being an idiot is not a fact of humanity, it is a result of our society. sure there are levels of intelligence that are not possible for everyone, but we aren't talking about mandating masters programs. critical thought and associates levels of education are within everyone's ability if they are provided with adequate early education, which is sorely lacking in many areas.

how else can you explain that even the most mediocre students in affluent neighborhoods can attain a nondemanding bachelor's career like accounting while people in poorer neighborhoods are completely unprepared for college and rarely make it through.

one can blame genetics and parenting, but when schools have outdated books, lack of facilities and faculty, and chronic overcrowding, the problem is clearly with them. the stupidity of the population is our societies doing and is fixable, not inevitable.

the problem with educating most people is that most people are stupid. even if you forced them to learn it, most wouldn't listen. it is a fairly boring subject that has no impact on their lives when they are young.

besides which, the way you view your society is fundamentally different in different groups. some groups want as little government oversight and power as possible. some want a strong federal government. some want strong state governments.

the bottom line is that 75% of the population are essentially sheep. they have neither the inclination or the time to be informed on issues. but that doesn't stop them from having an opinion.

The problem, like many, begins with education. Children are not taught, effectively, the values behind our representative democracy. Most will attend a civics class and complete a constitution test, which only requires a passing grade and minimal attention to pass. This lack of political education allows for media to constantly push suggestions and pass it as news. To remedy this schools should be teaching about the complexities of our social contract (the constitution) by teaching Rousseau and Locke.

yeah, stop being ruled by by emotions like fear, sit down and look at the facts.

here's the issue. as incomes hold steady and costs increase people have to devote more and more time to work, leaving little for following politicians and self education.

30 years ago we could raise a family on a single income. now 2 incomes barely cut it. that would make sense if the economy is shrinking, but it's growing! so someone is stealing wealth, time, and potential from the people and there is only 1 group prospering today and that is the few at the top.

True. The media is great but there just happen to be so many people who take the biased media to heart and don't do there research.

what exactly would you know about the world and government without the press?

the problem is when the press became part of our sensationalist entertainment media family. the death of unbiased press and investigate journalism wad the people's choice.
