As @Nemiroff said, when you get into college (especially past your freshmen classes) notes become super important. Often you'll only have notes to refer back onto for materials covered only during lecture and not in your readings. Taking extensive notes on just the subject itself, but also what the professor spent more time on during lecture will help you figure out what will likely be on any tests or what they would like you to focus on in bigger papers.

Speaking of large papers, writing 15 page papers without taking at least some notes during your studies will be rather painful.

For very technical subjects, it's almost impossible to pass without taking very good notes. I can't imagine passing formal logic without annotating almost every page of the text book and taking 2-3 pages of notes every class.

you are confusing student strengths with class difficulty.

go try learning anatomy without notes lol. every single bone has 10 ridges, bumps, and dimples each of which has a name and is an attachment point for some other bone ligament or muscle.

same goes for complicated math, detailed history, etc.

it seems your still in the easy part of early education. i wouldn't assume it is like that til the end. rather then a tool for weak students, its a necessary tool for ALL students that want to retain information and get good grades.

weak students doesnt always mean dumb student. getting good grades isnt difficult for someone who tries. the definition of a weak student isnt one who needs notes, its one who doesnt take notes.
