In some cases political correct speech is to avoid demeaning or insulting language, which is important because if you are purposely offending a group it is almost impossible to have a meaningful discussion. The problem is that at this point it is challenging to have a meaningful discussion about some topics (racism, sexism, immigration, etc) while staying politically correct. It is a verbal mine field which hampers honest communication.
