Treat all men as equal under God
people ought to be allowed to be racist. It's a part of Free speech to express any view you may hold regardless of the feelings it might hurt.
We do, however, need to make a distinction here between racism and discrimination. You may hold racist views, you may voice racist views, however, you may not act in such a way as to discriminate based on race. As a store owner for instance, you may sell racist propaganda items, you may even say racist things, however, you may not refuse service based on race.
Same goes for property owners. you may be racist, you may have a Confederate flag hanging outside your window. If, however, you plan on renting out that property, you may not discriminate based on race.
The same once again applies to jobs. You may own a company, and you may be racist, but you can not discriminate based on race your pay structure, your hiring, or your requirements for advancement.
we have to draw a real distinction between racism (the belief) and discrimination (the act). Only one is punishable in a society which values freedom of thought.
Well, what do you call 'harm'? Because words can hurt people. Are you talking about physical harm? Or moral harm? If its moral, where are your limits of acceptance?
Its a though subject because racism generally leads to harm. There is no racism that leads to good, since racism includes not accepting different people than you to live in your ''territory''. You can either send them back where they came from (destroying lives or bringing them back to poverty they are trying to escape from) or you accept them here and then its not racism anymore.
I ask you, what good can come out of racism for the people that are being rejected?
people cant express their racist feelings to others but they might in their own mind.
One person's freedoms end where another's begins
People can think and say whatever they like. The moment that they harm another individuals well being because of their race, then you must stop them. As long as a racist is peaceful and not violent, they are not really doing anything wrong. Everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and beliefs, and no matter how wrong their beliefs may seem you cannot take that away from them.
we all have our biases. I do try to judge people on an individual basis.
are you a racist? kind of nice racist?
your allowed to hold and speak your views to your hearts content. although others have a right to respond verbally, no one is allowed to assault another, and if no assault happens law enforcement can do nothing about either side's speach.
the only limitations I put are violence (which I hope would be obvious) and in hiring.
Would being racist involve exactly what you stated in your first argument there? It is like saying it is oky to take of work as long as you still work...
unless you feel others shouldn't be allowed to criticize you and your speech is more important than theirs.
in which case lol.
it's not illegal... as long as you don't assault people or discriminate in hiring.
