So if I want to be referred to as a girl when I am clearly a boy, that's okay?
they are, but why go out of the way to mention it every time? we don't do that to other terrorists? why special rules for terrorists who happen to be Muslim?
and why would we do something that actively hurts our battle against them by alienating our Islamic allies?
"don't label the terrorists as Islamic"
Do you mean groups such as ISIS?
ISIS is Islamic, whether you like it or not.
examples of PC:
don't use racial slurs
refer to people they way they want to be referred to.
don't label the terrorists as Islamic when the term pisses of other Islamic people who happen to also be the ones fighting these terrorists with us, and by using it repeatedly makes them not want to work with us (and undermines our security as well as the global effort to defeat these terrorists.
examples of NOT PC:
labeling someone as a racist for disagreeing with you or questioning a specific policy.
boycotting speeches instead of engaging them.
just because some people use the term for both situations doesn't make it so. I will agree that the second list of not pc things has gone too far and needs to stop. but the actual PC has overall done good and is just a fancy way of saying having manners and respect.
pc is about avoiding demeaning words. if you use the word jew instead of kike, do you lose any meaning of the word? does the message change in any way? does calling a woman "honey" or "sweet thang" instead of miss (or God forbid her actual name) undermining the fabric of our society?
the silencing of ideas and debate, on college campuses for example, is bad, but that's not PC. that's just ignorant people being stubborn and locking themselves up in their echochamber. and both sides are guilty of that.
that's why I said you don't know what PC even means. PC makes you change words, not meaning. (what exactly so racial slurs add to a conversation). and it's not just you, it's another example of an innocent word being twisted and demonized by right wing propaganda. just like the regulation boogeyman.
How PC would you say Donald Trump is?
The idea that it is only acceptable to say, think and believe certain things.
obviously the thread creator didn't go too far. seems to have abandoned it.
can anyone give an example of political correctness that went to far?
I would agree that some people take it to extremes, but on the whole I disagree that it has gone too far. The vast majority of political correctness is just not being intentionally racist or insulting. Common decency is the vast majority of political correctness.
do you even know what political correctness is?
