no. religion suppresses new ideas and encourages stagnation. it has outlived it's purpose.
The people need more religion.
why? Islamic countries we're far more advanced that Europe for hundreds of years. Christian countries were backwards and xenophobic by comparison.
the only reason Europe was able to surpass the middle East in prosperity is because the Mongols absolutely devastated them. a fate Europe only avoided because the Khan died before they could do the same to them.
Islam would be the most detrimental religion
although, they are clearly not necessary in those roles any more in a modern society.
That's a good argument you got me.
we need to be open to being watch and when we are being told we're going the wrong way we need to be able to look at the situation calmly and see if it is true.
no. we need to open our eyes more often and not blindly follow anyone. that is also not the only comfort religion gives. we feed and shelter the poor, help people who have hard times, I've personally seen some people heal the sick, help people get there lives back on track and much more... or at least we did. right now it's my belief we need a revival in my faith.
after the fall of the Roman empire the Catholic Church took on alot of the roles they used to provide. education, caring for the poor etc. the Templars, who were an extension of the church, were arguably the world's 1st bankers.
you should not underestimate the value of the services religious institutions used to provide prior to the creation of a centralized state.
the negative impact of religion is massive and obvious. but the positive impact is impossible to quantify.
on the large scale, leaders have used the influence of religion to sow divisions and war, but on the small interpersonal scale, religion has promoted good works and love to billions of people across the millennia.
Also, many of the wars waged in the name of religion had geopolitical reasons behind them and probably would have happened anyway.
Religion gives religous leaders power, a following, and the ability to shape a large portion of the population's world view. Are you arguing that the comfort of dying not being the end is worth the countless atrocities that religion has inspired ie. the crusades, genital mutilation, genocide, terrorism, and even christian extremists?
religious leaders have had a negative impact. religion has had a positive in that it has brought many comforts to millions of people
