religion is for those who want something to believe in, to give them a reason for hope. All religions have one thing in common; they bring people together under common beliefs, give them something to think about, to have faith in. Religion is a way to lift peoples spirits when they are down, to bring them back up when they can go no further.
It is not for people who cannot think for themselves, it is for people who need something to have faith in.
Religion provides more than just someone telling you what to think. It provides a sense of community, it provides comfort in difficult times and it provides a reason for charity. Admittedly not for everyone, but it does have its benefits as well as its negative aspects.
