First of all, they should be allowed if the teacher agrees and cell phones are actually useful if used correctly. Cell phones can help you during class.

Excuse me? I agree with what your saying, students should give full attention to their teacher and their education especially when in class. Your right it would be a distraction.

What about when you need to make an emergency call? What about when someone urgent calls or text you? Shouldn't you at least have the chance to notice this and act upon it at a break? I agree a phone should not be used in class nor at any other crucial time during a school day but it's useful at break and lunch time.

I don't think you have fully responded to the statement as it doesn't specify whether they mean that they should have phones in class but rather in school in general but not necessarily for use in class.

Also regarding the respect for teachers in my experience they are on phones just as much as students during lessons and we are no different and should be treated equally. Respect is earned not automatically recieved due to age or 'status'. Do as you teach.

Absolutely not. It's a matter of courtesy and respect to give your full attention to the teacher. It's also a matter of respect for your fellow classmates, phones can be a distraction to those around you as well. If you wanna play on your phone, then you shouldn't come to class.
