well I'm not entirely sure.
harsher penalties have been shown to not reduce crime. criminals either think they wont get caught, or act in the moment without thinking at all.
I think life in prison without parole effectively guarantees public safety as well as providing excellent accountability for criminals.
how do you feel about those who were sentenced but later found to be innocent. are you ok executing them?
I believe that the statement above is strongly false because of one solid reason which is capital punishment had brought us lots of benefits since it was first done.
What are they actually?
First, it will create a sense of accountability towards all of the criminals and also all the country's citizen. The fear of getting executed will exceed the lust of doing something that can cause them to be punished by capital punishment. In the end, all people will realize that their actions come with an effect that they will have to face later on.
Second, it provides the right of safety towards the citizen. For all we already acknowledged about, capital punishment is for major crimes that can cause harms to the others. If this kind of punishment got banned, citizens will have to live in fear everyday knowing that criminals do not fear of the punishment given for it was minimal.
much like punching someone who first punched you isnt nearly as bad as throwing the first unprovoked punch, killing a killer is not the same as killing an innocent. you are not going down to their level. they asked for it, their victim did not.
It depends... do we want to commit the same acts that brand people monsters? Killing those that kill makes us in fact killers which by logic should/would be killed by the retribution of our own actions and judgement of others. This is the very reason we punish others and therefore punish ourselves by lowering ourselves to that point BUT some crimes are so haneous that nothing but pain is befitting to the perpetrator.
capital punishment is useless and counter productive. life in prison is a worse punishment. it's also cheaper for very good reasons. and our justice system has been wrong before. you cant reverse an execution.
