Do you have examples of this happening in any of the countries that have made prostitution legal? I cam see the logic behind your argument, but I question whether it is a realistic concern since prostitution has always existed we have not seen this effect. It has also been legalized or long been legal in various places, and I have never seen the kind if social damage you are worried about.
Think about it if prostitution be legal all the prostitute will have equal social value mostly women would loose their value in front of men, kids would stop respecting their mother's and sisters all they would see is some other sex toy.
what are you talking about? what addiction? what is harming them?
It harming a lot of young generation because it causes addiction that is irresistible and you end up wasting lot of your time on such stuff which can be used elsewhere more productively.
it is not really a shame thing to the society, just as many people they cannot find a proper one or dont want to have a relationship to anyone. legal or illegal cannot stop to men or womens needed, right?
Yes it should so i can finally get laid.
any occupation can be dangerous. but legalizing opens them to the protections the government gives every other person. employment insurance, access to legal and medical care etc. legalizing it would only help make the industry safer.
Maybe it would decreas but i mean it can always still be dangerous.
the dangers decrease significantly by legalizing it. prostitutes can seek legal and medical assistance that they can't while its illegal. there would be government oversight which would mean safer work environments. with establishments being registered it would be alot easier for police to check for women being forced or trafficked. I've yet to see any argument here that against legalizing prostitution that is based in actual facts.
Yet the prostitution business has been around forever, just because you wouldnt want to go into that business doesnt mean every other women who wish to go in it should be denied it. Prostitution is already present that it be legal or not, making it legal wouldnt exactly change much and is already tolerated in most places and legal in others. The danger that comes with it will never change regardless of it being legal or not.
That is an interesting argument, but it does not seem to be backed by real world examples.
Illegal operations are always negatively impacted when their product becomes legal. Look at prohibition. Organized crime mate money on it until alcohol became legal, then they got out of the business since there wasn't enough profit to be worthwhile. What differentiates prostitution so much that legalization would help fuel illegal profits.
Also, do you have any kind of evidence to support the idea that abuse would increase? Right now prostitutes cannot go to the police if they are raped or beaten because they will be arrested. Where do you get the idea that letting them seek help would make the abuse worse?
sex should never be turned into work or a profitable business, even if this labour is allegedly voluntary. It's not evident that the proliferation of legal sex enterprises would include the proliferation of sex businesses would that acted ethically and responsibly .Even if sex businesses could operate in a more lax and permissive environment, many abuses would go undetected.already noxious aspects of this industry, abuses such as fraud, deception, and coercion are intolerable.
So basicaly you are saying that if prostitution is legal, there would be more sex slaves? We arent talking about legalising sex slavery here were talking about making prostitution legal..
It's not that easy. People who are forced into prostitution are tightly watched by their king pins. She can't wake up today and say I'm going to the Police. Any move that she makes that could get her king pin involved with the police will get them into serious danger. The have a specific boundary their able to move in. once they get out they get into serious trouble. The drugs also make it much more difficult for them to get help.
If prostitution was legal, those forced into it would be able to go to the police to seek help instead of fearing arrest. It would also make it so that there was not the illegal market for prostitutes.
There are countries where prostitution is legal and they have not experienced any of the things you are expressing concerns about.
By allowing prostition to be legal these would indanger women who are in country's where sex slavery occurs. Meaning that King pins would take advantage of this and force many people into sex slavery which is not wanted. Prostitution opens women on to High doses of illegal drugs and sexually transmitted diseases. Yes there are such things as condoms but they only work 90% of the time and that 10% still counts for something. Children as young as 9 can be forced into prostitution and this is where the problem lies. Prostitution should never be allowed for its high unacceptable.
I just said forcing people into prostitution should be illegal. legalising prostitution wouldn't make forcing women into prostitution any less illegal. prostitution isn't the problem in that case. forcing them is.
Uhh hello yes the prostitution itself is harming someone..the person that was forced into it..its harming them....
no. forcing people into prostitution should be illegal, the prostitution itself isn't harming anyone.
Yeah but then again some people are forced into prostitution..which is why i think it should be illegal ..my opinion
I can see that. that's a fair argument.
the main arguments against it are usually a moral, and usually religiously based.
it is illegal, but it is necessary needed to mantain balance. Just like doctors.
it's legal in several countries. the Netherlands and new Zealand both have it, just off the top of my head.
I agree. Do you know if it is in any countries? I know you talked about other cultural experience in another debate.
I don't see any logical reason why not.
