The government has been trying to tax the rich more. Unsuccessfully. So many loopholes and tax breaks are available to the public. Guess what? These tax breaks are more taken advantage of by the rich, who have the money to hire accountants that are pros with this stuff. I say flat tax rate or no tax rate.
the wealthy have earned money through hrd work and increasing taxes for this is not right
I agree of a flat tax, I disagree with the wealthy being taxed more. My comments before states what I believe
I agree the rich have not been paying fair tax, most people do.
Do you think the Rich should be taxed more?
that is the real question anyway. I think everyone should be taxed the same.
I think uneployment has acutely deceased the past few months, if I'm not mistaken it's a somewhere of 3 percent or 4 percent and has the potential of dropping by some studies that have been done by experts (what we would call experts)
In 2008 it spiked massively because of a large recession. The reason its going down now is because if it went any higher half the country would be out of work. the country has been slowly recovering from this recession which was caused by a bunch of greedy rich bankers. I have no idea why you think it went down. or what it has to do with tax rates for the wealthy.
Unemployment has been dropping the past 7 years. take a guess why.
fair enough. The current economic climate makes the bigger issue than when the government is making a lot more money. but the rich hiding from their responsibilities and forcing the poor to bear the brunt of taxes is still a big problem.
I don't like arguing politics but I do have to the question of who is going to pay you to work, a rich man or a poor man? I know unemployment has dropped these past few months, but if the corporate tax rates drops is that not encouraging for companies to want to grow business and hire more worker's and increasing the overall GDP
Ok sorry about that but it is true if we as a country were not in such a big debt. this would not be as big of an issue seeing as the us would not need as much money. it would still be a problem.
Lmao. This has been going on for decades. do you really think the Republicans would have allowed him to increase the taxes on the wealthy. Even if he had tried they would made it look like some tax grab and rode him out on the rails. the leaders of the Republicans are just as rich and just as corrupt and all the other politicians. Trying to blame it on Obama is just sad and pathetic.
Obama's fault!!! the country has survived for years with this going on with the rich.
Not even remotely close. They are avoiding paying taxes on billions if not trillions of dollars. A few social security cheques are a drop in the bucket to them.
Tax is very confusing I am not a tax lawyer and can not explain this to you. Do you think if the rich say they do not want social security this will cancel out the tax stuff you say they are getting away with.
except the tax is not equal for all. You look at that page I link you'll see the wealthy are paying way less tax on their income then you or I are. they do this by hiring expensive tax lawyers who find ways around paying. This isn't a matter of simply the rich should pay more. Right now the Richard pan way less because they can. They aren't paying anything close the rate that you are. They take advantage of the poor because the poor can't find a way out of paying.
They want to make and keep as much money as possible as do you. no politician is right about everything. Donald Trump, a wealthy politician talked about the rich in tax.
he states that there should be equal tax, for all, but the people should be able to not receive social security. this would be optional, as the wealthy have no need for it.
The laws are made by a bunch of rich, old men. I understand that you think popes are infallible. But do you really think that politicians are? You don't think that rich men might want to keep the money they've got? do you think that all politicians are honest and trustworthy all the time?
HistoryBuff "Since the wealthy make the laws" This is America, a democracy, not a anarchy country ruled by the rich.
The system was made by laws that were made by Congress elected by the people.
where did that come from? It has nothing to do with whether taxes are easy. This has to do with the fact that rich people created the tax system. They created it so that they could find loopholes. Just look at capital gains taxes and taxes loopholes on transferring money between countries. If you don't have at least a million dollars these tax breaks do not help you in any way. This system is designed to protect the rich.
if doing taxes was easy we would not need TurboTax and stuff if it was a clean percentage it would be very easy with a simple math problem. Do you think doing taxes is easy?
Since the wealthy make the laws and have lawyers to find their way around the law they get out of paying their share. despite making the majority of the money the lower and middle class pay way more into the government coffers than they do. anyone should see how that is unfair.
If they paid their taxes as they were supposed to it might not be a problem. But they don't. They have the resources to find their way out of paying. take a look at http://www.alternet.org/economy/5-powerful-reasons-why-rich-should-pay-their-taxes-and-not-game-system
the fair tax idea would work besr here, same percentage. I don't like my taxes going to pay for illegals but best believe that I want my money going to pay for our military. its a catch 22 that works best when the government takes the same percentage from all and only spends what it takes in, not more. and we don't pay for everything with taxes, we pay for it with debt which is why the country is going to hell in a handbasket
Yes and no. Lots of problems occur with both. If everyone is pays the same tax it could be unfair toward the poor, however the other way it could be harder for the middle class to sustain money.
if you are rich you Can donate to charity. the government should not force you to give them money.
society is social contract. we band together for defense. we agree to live by rules for our mutual benefit. and with that comes a responsibility to look out for one another. If you have way more resources you should contribute more. No one is saying that we should take 90% of their income. But if you make millions you can afford to pay a little more so the government can afford to provide critical services.
There are lazy poor people. there are lazy rich and middle class people. lazy is not a class characteristic. The sad truth is that most people never leave the class they are born into no matter how hard they work. there are always exceptions. but in general if you are born with no money and you aren't a genius, you're going to die with no money.
There are lower class people that work as hard as they can like a rich ceo would. the problem is the are lazy lower class people who think we are socialist and expect money from the goverment. Do not hate on the poor who work hard.
Your ignorance is staggering. If you are born rich, generally you stay rich. you can buy your way into an ivy league school and then become a banker or a hedge fund manager. There are self made rich people who worked damn hard. but alot of rich people are there because they knew the right people or were born in the right family. and saying that minimum wage people are lazy is just downright stupid. they need to work way more hours than a rich person just to survive. Income is not a reflection of how hard you work. especially in a system designed to keep poor people from moving up.
Last time I checked this is America, not a Socialist country with a bunch of lazy asses. You realize your taxes go to illegals free food and refugees, right? Of course taxes go towards other things, but why the hell would you want to be rich if some Socialist government just steals you money? Rich people are harder working. They worked harder in school, in college, at work, got good education, played things smart. People who don't work and don't pursue a goal in life turn out to be minimum wage workers. So simple it is ridiculous.
And again Astrospace, that's not all it pays for. The insterstates are paid for with taxes. The entire government is paid for with taxes. The research that's used to stop YOU from getting a cold or to stop another country from bombing US is all paid for with taxes. They aren't being punished. How in the world is it punishment because we're taking their $600,000 salary down to $590,000, or $2,000,000 salary down $1,975,000. They aren't losing much in the grand scheme of things.
And like historybuff said, many of those riches were inherited, and of those that were actually earned, many of them gained it by spending a couple extra hours on math homework and then getting a job because of their uncle's connections.
I'm not saying they don't work hard, but you can't say that they work hardER than people of lower classes.
This isn't biblical times. Abraham didn't live in a modern society. He didn't have paved roads or hospitals. Also the rich and powerful made all the rules. Why would the rich want to pay more than a tenth when you can make everyone else pay? Modern societies charge more tax because they provide more services. Ancient rich people treated poor people like dirt. they frequently died of starvation or preventable diseases. Rich people still treat poor people like dirt for the most part. Because you don't become a billionaire by being nice. You become a billionaire by squeezing people for all you can.
This is America. there is a reason people live here, and not in some socialist contry. the bible says to give a tenth. Abraham was really rich, he only gave a tenth.
Your argument that rich people are inherently harder working is stupid. Bankers do not work harder than factory workers but make a thousand times more. Alot of rich people inherited their fortune. The only thing they do is collect interest. Please stop making such untrue statements.
They don't need to be punished for being wealthy. Unless they were born into nobility and a king, they work a hell of a lot harder than you do. Trust me. If they didnt, you'd be rich too, right? They obviously work the hardest, so you don't need to steal their money so that "childeren can eat."
I think they should with a wekfare reforment so that there aren't so many people taking advantage of the system. Once that's done why shouldn't they?
Whoever said they shouldn't have to pay for lazy people: you do know welfare isn't the only thing taxes pay fore right? It goes into infrastructure, the government, federal, state, and city buildings, wars, research, and a buttload of other crap.
If they can afford more why shouldn't they pay more? It's not like we're asking them to become as poor as the rest of the nation, they'd just be losing a few thousand out of a six figure salary.
I care about their tax bracket because the money they have is valuably stored and used in the economy as savings.
And I'm not saying that we should give their money to lazy people. but if millionaires are taxed higher than people who bust their a** working minimum wage jobs can hold on to a little more money. and I think trump could give up one of his helicopters so children could eat.
First of all, unless you are wealthy (ie making hundreds of thousands a year) why would you care about their tax bracket? secondly, do you think a bank CEO who makes millions works harder than a factory worker who works 60 hours a week making peanuts? When you make that much money, work and income generally are completely unrelated.
That's ridiculous. Their hard earned money shouldnt go to your lazy a** if you dont want to work. If they work hard, they earn the money, not you.
everyone is entitled to what they earn and everyone should pay the same percentage in taxes no matter what is earned. that is fair and that is the most American.
They aren't being punished. Everyone has to pull their weight and pay what they can for the benefit of the country. they can afford to pay more, why shouldn't they have to?
Wealthy people shouldn't be punished for being wealthy. They have a right to their earnings just as much as everyone else.
