As of December 31st 2013 there were 1,369,532 active members of the US military. If each one got a $1 per year raise (which is more if a slap in the face than anything else) it means that you need to come up with 1.3 million dollars a year to pay them. For a more meaningful increase, say 5000 /year (still not huge in the grand scheme of things but enough to potentially make a difference on lifestyle), that means you need to add $6.85 billion dollars per year. How high did you intend for the salary to get?
I don't mean to disparage the military in any way. The job they do is important to everyone and I have nothing but respect for people who are in the military, but saying that they should all get a raise with knowing where funding I'd going to be cut doesn't make sense.
I would be more in favor of other incentives for military personnel to make their lives easier. Free daycare for children, free university for both military personnel and their children, tax breaks, and assistance with big purchases (I have seen commercials for a bank for military personnel and their families that talks about lower mortgage rates, low interest car loans, etc). These would help the soldiers more than making a few extra dollars and would cost less to taxpayers.
soldiers is definitely worth to earn a higher salaries. Just think about it, who are the ones who always being for there when our countries meet our needs. they're the one who protects us, keeping us safely. it cannot be denied that soldier has to be going through a lot of training a day for keeping success, its tired, its weary. the should deserve a higher earning of salaries
GetMurked, yes I agree, though this couldn't happen because athletes and artists are somewhat entrepreneurs and don't rely on a payment contract as they earn money that depends from people.
So you are advocating stealing from those who have rightfully earned money to redistribute that money to military personnel? What happens when you run out of people who you feel are less deserving with excess money? Do soldiers go back to current pay scales or do you move on to doctors, lawyers, and other highly paid professionals? I just want to understand how you envision this system being run long term.
the money should be taken from other peoole who deserve it less(celebrities and athletes) and distributed among those riskimg thier lives for us.
Soldiers definitely deserve to be taken care of and the job they do is important to everyone, but where are you suggesting the money to give every soldier a raise come from? Military personnel are paid from tax dollars, meaning there is only so much to go around. If more of the defense budget went to wages, less would go to equipment maintenance and purchase and other essential things. Everyone wants to make more money, but most people would agree that having the equipment to keep you alive is more important than leaving some extra money to your loved ones when you are killed.
