Tests with random questions?
I agree with psychdave and won't repeat what he said but instead ask what you would have as a replacement of standardised tests
I agree with PsychDave, but I believe that standardized tests are conditioning students to solve always the same problems using the same mechanic way. Students should be confronted with real and challenging situations where they can apply their knowledge, not only "Fluorine is extremely electronegative because the books say so".
Standardized tests are a valuable tool for educators. The give a snapshot of the capability of the student that cam be compared. They certainly should not be the only measure of a students ability, but they are a useful one.
