in addition to being top level action movies, they are also top level comedies (not DC).
Logan was a pretty damn good drama, and I could totally see a hero movie going the suspense or thriller path.
pretty much all of Hollywood is getting lazy. Instead of using half baked stories made by burnt out writers (like skyscraper) taking from the decades of fleshed out comic stories (like infinity war) with complex, interesting villians mixed in with a bit of philosophy is a welcome change.
the backstories are nearly identical, but the plots are pretty deep for action flicks. (pre superhero action flicks werent known for their plots either.)
they have a strong advantage of having mountains of prewritten stories polished over decades to work with so they arent exactly geniuses, but if you just judge the movies on their own, they are way better than about 95% of action movies ever.
The VFX and effects of the newer superhero movies are mind-boggling but their storylines are becoming increasingly similiar. E.g.batman and iron man have a similiar back story, to say the least. Still the movies are much more fun to watch as superhero movies are more about action than they are about storylines
Harry Potter is the best thing.
Looks like not, for some reason?
I personally agree, so I guess I don't have much to contribute.
can any of the disagrees leave a comment or somethin?
1. I would like to remind people that these are action movies and have not replaced drama or comedy movies.
what they have mostly replaced are other action movies, and most action movies are relatively garbage. you would have to span decades to find enough grade a action movies to count on 1 hand.
btw, Logan coulda been competition for any drama
guardians of the galaxy / thor ragnarok coulda taken on any comedy
