I'd also like to point out that that is the same argument Hitler used. we didn't lose the war, the politicians betrayed us. that's what lead to WW 2.
The war in Vietnam could possibly have been won if there had been a massive, immediate attack in 1965. by 1967 the Viet Cong and NVA were too entrenched and well armed. the majority of the south Vietnamese people supported the Communists. the southern government was completely corrupt, and even worse, completely inept. The north was extremely motivated, organized and loved by the people. the Americans could never have have kept the south going forever. by 1967 there was no way to beat the North that wouldn't have sparked a war with China or Russia. you can't defend a country from its own people. and 85% of the Vietnamese people wanted the Americans gone.
