When I think of atrocities for political purposes by the US I think about the Philippines in the 1880s or 90s.

I mostly mean passing policies and military action. However, by "political moves", i mean political moves in any sense of the definition.

the cuban missile crisis, and possibly ww3 were our fault as well. soviets only moved missiles to Cuba because we moved missiles close by to russia. we started it, and almost caused a nuclear apocalypse.

i dont think there will be any disagreement about historic US international crimes. my question is what do you mean by political. are you talking about committing atrocities to pass desired policies, or political maneuvering to ensure they get reelected or personally wealthier.

i do agree we have commited crimes, particularly in south and central america.

I think you're right. Here's another one; Operation Northwoods, a proposed operation by the DoD in 1962 to shoot down a military plane and make it look like an act of terror against american citizens to justify military action in Cuba.

The plan was rejected, but it makes you wonder what has actually gone through. This is not a conspiracy theory, though it might sound like one. Just look up 'operation northwoods' on wikipedia.

i agree that the patriot act is terrible, but going into 9/11 theories is going to distract from the conversation i think your trying to make.

The patriot act, for example, removing personal privacy rights that would never have been accepted by the public before the horrible events of september 11th.
