Read Crime and Punishment. Its a beautiful piece on the criminal mind before and after a crime, and also what it feels to be doomed (Dostoevsky was locked away and sentenced to death).
Execution cannot be taken back, meaning wrongfully convicted people would also be killed.
I also disagree because I don't think the point of the system should be punishment. It should be rehabilitation. The current system turns minor criminals into violent criminals due to the influences in prison. If we shifted the goal to teach minor criminals a better way to live it would save us tax money since they wouldn't be repeat offenders, they would get paying jobs on release and pay taxes and crime would go down. I recognize that this is a massive shift in systems and would take time, but going back to the death penalty is moving in the wrong direction.
