If time travel will ever exist, people from future would already be back here...
if it's a potato in a box, it doesn't matter how simple it is, coming up with the proper combo is difficult. no matter how low tech, if the guy who finds it vanishes, it could be another 100 years before someone bothers to try that combo again. hind sight is always 20/20. I mean how many millenia did it take humans to figure out the wheel...
but in the multi-billion dollar national level experiment, yeah it would be difficult to hide, and it is more likely that large energy and $ will be required and not a potatoe in a box, so you win this one. (unless the director of said program kills everyone involved and then vanishes to take over the past, people have killed for much much less than ruling nations and entering history books) but now I'm entering hypothetical fantasies :p
it's just a creation of human minds which seem to be more interesting by its meaning....you can call it best fantasy among all dreams of human society...and we are desperated to make it true buy no scientific law have been interlinked to it's possibility .
But if it was possible, you wouldn't be the only one to discover it. You might never share the secret, but what are the odds it could be realized without nation level funding? If it was as simple as a potato in a box with a switch, everyone would do it. If it required a particle accelerator, only nations would be able to. In either case (and all in between) there would be tampering.
Let's say it is ridiculously challenging and expensive. There might only be a handful of facilities in the world capable of it. The problem is that the nations funding it would abuse it eventually. If the US had reliable time travel, do you think Trump would hesitate to order it done to change things that didn't go his way? Do you believe Putin wouldn't abuse it similarly?
one place I would go is when Jesus was around and follow him. then I would go to the 1950's to live a great life
I'd abuse the stock market and become a hedgefund billionaire.
if I invented time travel I wouldn't share it. I'd go back in time and be a king or a prophet. perhaps that's the truth behind our heros. and each time the secret was lost, thus no tourists.
sure It would be nice to go see some events, but it'll be more awesome to be a king, a Nobel prize winner, or a legendary music star.
I don't believe time travel as portrayed in science fiction will ever be realized. If time travel is perfected at any point in history, it would be present at all points in human history. People are curious, so someone would want to see the Hindenburg crash, or kill Hitler. Even if almost everyone was talked out if it, if only 1 person every 10 years decided to ignore warnings and sightsee in history, that is an accumulation of many, many mysterious people showing up at historic events.
imagine explanation marks afterwards. apparently the app doesn't like them.
