no they couldn't. using foreign ground forces in the region would only make things worse.
I don't like the idea of teaming up with Russia, but if the we could somehow make war between ISIS and Russia happen, Russia could knock our ISIS for us.
There is one big mistake (or more correctly a misunderstanding) in the title. RUSSIA IS NOT AT WAR WITH ISIS. While it is true that of late Russia applied more efforts in interrupting ISIS' activities by bombing them with aerial attacks than many other countries ever had, these are still small raids and not massive organized military attacks like in war. Moreover Russia only uses their air force to damage ISIS whereas in war they would have used land units and tanks and other land force vehicles and equipments.
too many big egos to let that happen but I agree. although countries should fight their own wars and not stick their nose in everyone's business.
Russia and the US have different end goals. There is no point in supporting Russia at this time. We're already bombing targets, arming and training opposition fighters, etc... So we have our own war; which is will probably have much more international support after the Paris bombings.
Russian targets in the area are actually at odds with our goal. Since Russia wants to keep Asaad in power and is so bombing both ISIS and opposition targets. The US believes that Asaad is a recruitment tool for ISIS after he oppressed the sunis in the region. The majority of neighboring countries and other EU and NATO countries have the same view. Russia is the outlier here and needs to get over the little proxy war it wants to have.
The US should back Assad
no they aren't. until their passenger plane got shot down they weren't targeting ISIS at all. they were targeting the other rebel groups that oppose Asad. they are now starting to bomb ISIS targets. but keeping Asad in power is their goal. they are letting the west target ISIS. so the topic sentence is wrong.
