I think it depends. If we watch sports for fun to relieve us from stress, there is nothing wrong with watching sports. However, some people watch sports too much that they forget other important activities. If that's what happens, then watching sports is not productive at all.
Watching sports can make you better at the sport that you are playing. Someone might have dreams of becoming a pro, so in order to do so, they watch the pros play. It helps them learn more about their sport that they are playing.
