Some college graduates cannot get a job because they have a totally useless degree in something like French Literature or Philosophy or History which does not have any place in the modern world.
Right now, you have the freedom to study anthing which is just a recipe for disaster in many cases.
If you want to study birds, that is fine by me, but your parents need to pay the bill or yourself working for a few years in the real world and then getting enough cash to study.
If you don't have any trust fund then you cannot waste your time studying birds. You need to enter the job markets just like the rest of us.
The student loan crisis is just because many people are taking unprofitable careers.
We just need to tweak that a bit and we'll be fine.
Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Apple cannot fill all the jobs they have in robotics and programming because very few people have graduated from those schools.
In fact, most new employees hired by these companies come from overseas.

Seriously, study capitalism in theory and practice. Start with Adam Smith. Take macroeconomics 101. Then just think about it a little. There's not enough space to explain how this doesn't add up. We're already in a student loan crisis because graduates can't get work after they're out of school and we haven't even felt a fraction of the hit of a true automation economy. Not everyone could study robotics or programming because there's not a high enough demand for those jobs and there never will be, at least enough to replace all of the other jobs.
I mean, humans are creative and have gotten themselves out of jams before, so there is a solution somewhere, but it's not just "get a student loan." We might have to go full-on socialist and just hand out minimum incomes--which probably would collapse on itself after a while.
But economies don't work unless people GENERATE wealth, so there'd have to be new types of jobs that robots can't do but create something that's in demand.
It's called a student loan. Get yours today.
