that is one theory of the afterlife. it negates the argument that infinite punishment for finite crime is evil.

another interesting approach is afterlife is what you make of it. like an empty plot of land. do good deeds and your land gets cleaner, more comfortable. do bad deeds, and its like dumping garbage on your land. what accumaltes at the end is what you spend eternity in. a very appealing and sensible theory for a good god.
